Lisa Pressman & Tim Ponzek:

If the Sky Was Home

$14.98

"Take an exceptionally talented ensemble, add a creative blend of Latin, Adult Contemporary, and light jazz music, and add some empyreal vocalise and you might have the album if the sky was home by Lisa Pressman and Tim Ponzek in your eager hands. Lisa’s free and easy style on the piano and Tim’s proficient handling of the acoustic guitar make for an entertaining hour of tunes that warm the heart and touch the spirit. Additionally, Lisa has an eerie vocal styling; almost a sweet sighing that she adds to the songs, that polishes them with an angelic luster. The two artists are also producers of the album.

With a Bossa Nova beat, the song Beneath A Million Stars opens the album and you can tell right away that the mood is going to be light, sensual and romantic. You are out on the patio, the stars shine above you like diamonds on a fabric of black velvet. A desert wind bathes you in the scent of night blooming flowers and soft, silky touches are not far away. Pressman’s piano is luminous as the guitar scratches out a Brazilian rhythm. Bob Lashier adds the groovin’ bass track and Todd Chuba taps percussion.

The title track If the Sky Was Home is a free flight in the heavens, light as a feather, warmer than a sunny day. Once again, Pressman sings her sighing vocal and her able piano takes the lead. The message to me is - what if every day in your life was carefree? What if our hearts were light, our souls unencumbered? The song allows us to hear Pressman’s passion as well as her virtuosity.

Violet Summer is music made out of memories. A purple sky at dusk...a time when darkness shrouds your day and the earth breathes a sigh. Warm August breezes touch your face as the walk in the neighborhood, hand in hand, ends at your door, but the night is young. A waltz with weeping violin and contemplative piano slows the pace and makes the mood fertile for memories.

Three Wishes. This is my favorite song on if the sky was home. It has Ponzek’s elaborate, almost classical guitar intro and then the piano visits the song like an old friend. The tune is a bit wistful at first, but the energy picks up as Pressman glides in unobtrusively with her ghostly vocalise.

Tim’s guitar and Lisa’s piano get equal billing on the ballad titled Adrift. It is a dancing in the dark, hold on for all it is worth tune that lets your mind go with the flow. The music is so free that you just may feel your feet leaving the ground.

This is long overdue romantic evening music. This is let’s celebrate because it’s Tuesday night music. Light the luminaries, put the kids to bed, and cozy up for an unforgettable experience in music. Let the romance begin."
