Mannheim Steamroller:
Celebration
Composer and commercial jingle
writer Chip Davis has created a sound under the moniker Mannheim Steamroller
that melds instrumental classical, jazz, and pop music, paving the way for
the success of adult contemporary and new age music. After stints touring
with a choir and teaching music to high-schoolers, Davis accepted a position
writing jingles, which gave rise to the creation of his first album;
entitled FRESH AIRE, Davis declared it to be "18th Century classical rock."
No record label would have anything to do with it, so Davis started his own,
and created the false band whose name has stuck to this day. Surprisingly,
the album was a hit, valued for the superior sound quality and the unique
use of synthesizers and electric bass applied to classical music. The rest
is history, with Davis releasing multiple follow-ups to FRESH AIRE, and
creating numerous popular Christmas albums. One of these, MANNHEIM
STEAMROLLER CHRISTMAS, sold over 5 million copies and scored a top 40 hit.
CELEBRATION looks back on 25 years of hits with songs that include:
"Baroque-A-Nova," "Chocolate Coffee," "Christmas Lullaby," "Dancin' in the
Stars," "Eclectic Blue" "The Fourth Door," and "Kanbai," among others.
